atingi and UNESCO’s Global Skills Academy: supporting learners from around the world in building skills for improved employability

May 15, 2024

As part of GIZ’s membership in the UNESCO Global Education Coalition, its digital learning platform atingi is now part of the Global Skills Academy (GSA), joining an international network of partners on their mission to support ten million youth and adults across the world in building relevant skills to improve their employability and resilience by 2029.

Through the Global Education Coalition, UNESCO brings together 225 diverse partners to collaboratively address global education challenges and drive education transformation to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. One of the Coalition’s missions is the Global Skills Academy (GSA), through which governments, institutions, and individual learners are connected to a wide range of training programmes offered by the Coalition members. GIZ is a member of this dynamic global platform and proud to partner with GSA through atingi, its digital learning platform developed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

atingi is dedicated to providing high-quality education to learners worldwide, particularly in underserved regions. The platform offers more than 550 free online courses in multiple languages in areas such as digital skills, soft skills and labour market skills, tourism, artificial intelligence, agriculture, health, and much more.

The platform has attracted more than one million learners already and to be able to offer its vast repository of free digital training to a larger network through GSA is exciting and a great step in supporting youth and adults in their journeys to developing essential skills and competencies for improved employability and resilience.

Highlighted offerings for the GSA network are the atingi eAcademy Tourism and Hospitality with more than 40 courses in English, French, and Spanish, as well as the Agribusiness e-Academy, which focuses on skills on agronomy, entrepreneurship and economics needed for successful agribusiness.

About UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition

The Global Education Coalition is an engine for multistakeholder cooperation in education. Launched in 2020, it now has 225 institutional partners working across 112 countries to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education. The Coalition catalyzes action to support education systems worldwide through its four action-oriented and target-driven missions that seek to: help learners and youth gain skills needed for employability, assist teachers with their professional development by advancing their digital and pedagogical capacities, offer learners access to cost-free supplemental educational resources and instruction anywhere and at any time, and work towards normalizing gender equality in and through education. Additionally, the Digital Transformation Collaborative - a tech-focused subgroup of the membership - aims to mobilize resources at the national level in collaboration with governments to leverage sustainable digital transformation in education to achieve SDG 4.
